About the Cape Coral Caring Center

If you are one of many people who do not have sufficient resources to maintain a suitable lifestyle and you are a Cape Coral resident, you may qualify for help from the Cape Coral Caring Center. Because we know the minimal essentials of life are food and shelter, we are here to assist those persons who come to our center needing these essentials:

• Food items
• Electric bill assistance (when funds are available)
• Referrals to other agencies

To receive food assistance, all you need is a valid Cape Coral driver’s license or Florida ID.

The goals of the Caring Center are:

• To assist individuals and families in critical need to cope with a negative economic situation on a short-term basis.
• To maximize services to individuals and families.
• To minimize duplication of services by various agencies.
• To help maintain a suitable standard of living for all citizens of Cape Coral.
  

The Caring Center receives support from the following sources:

• Participating churches and church groups
• The City of Cape Coral (C.D.B.G funds)
• Various civic and fraternal organizations
• Local businesses
• Concerned individuals
• United Way (FEMA Funds)
• American Red Cross Community Adaption Program (CAP)

This support consists of money and food which is used to assist clients in need. We are a nonprofit organization, and meet IRS code 501(c)(3), tax deductible contributions.

The Caring Center is administered by a board of directors from various organizations including churches and other interested parties. A director and assistant are in charge of the operation of the center (CPA audited). At the heart of the Cape Coral Caring Center is a dedicated core of volunteers who interview clients, inventory items given to the center and assist with the operation of the center.

In 1990, the Cape Coral Ministerial Association created the Caring Center as an agency to which people could turn for help during a temporary financial crisis. Since that time, the Caring Center has been recognized as a prominent factor in maintaining an acceptable lifestyle for our citizens in need.

The clients we see just need a lift over the short-term, and a boost through an uncomfortable period in their life. We help in every way we can. We are not a sustaining agency.

Since our inception, we have helped over 70,000 people in our Cape Coral community on a short-term basis. This places great demand on the services that we provide. We constantly look to the community to help support this local effort through fund drives, cash donations, food donations and volunteers willing to give of their time. We serve as a clearing house for the generosity of our community in providing for those less fortunate, or who have fallen into a temporary economic valley as the result of a crisis situation.
